Heavy Snow Blankets Central Korea


Heavy snowfall is expected in Seoul and central Korea on Wednesday. The Korea Meteorological Administration on Tuesday warned of up to 10 cm of snow in the Seoul metropolitan area, western Gangwon Province and some parts of the Chungcheong provinces on Wednesday afternoon.

A warning is issued when more than 5 cm of snow is expected to accumulate in 24 hours.

The KMA predicted snow on the west coast between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Wednesday, moving to Seoul and most parts of the country. Central parts will see heavy snow from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with occasional thunder and lightening.

It will mostly stop in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province at 9 p.m. on Wednesday but continue until Thursday morning in the Chungcheong and Jeolla provinces.

The morning low on Wednesday was -4 degrees Celsius in Seoul and -8 degrees in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province, up one or two degrees from Tuesday. However, the mercury will drop to -9 degrees in Seoul on Thursday morning.
