The Seoul Metropolitan Government will operate 365 fountains in parks and streets across the city from April or May to up till September. In order to save energy, the city government has decided to reduce the operating period of the fountains by two months compared to previous years.
As part of the city's efforts to conserve energy, fountains on major streets are being operated only during commuting and lunch hours. Other fountains that spring from street level will be operated on afternoons only to keep citizens, especially frolicking children, cool as the mercury rises.
