South Korean Choshinsung DVD tops Oricon weekly chart

Another Korean boy band is making inroads in the world’s second largest music market, Japan.

Choshinsung, better known by its Japanized name Choshinsei, conquered the weekly DVD chart there with latest release “Fan Meeting 2011 ‘For You’ Concert DVD,” with 9,070 copies sold.

It is only the third time that a non-Japanese act has achieved this feat; the other two before them being TVXQ and JYJ, also Korean boy bands.

The disc includes footage from the fan event at the Saitama Arena, 20 kilometers north of central Tokyo, last October. Over 20,000 fans were in attendance.

Since their debut in 2007 in Korea, Choshinsung have found more success in Japan than their native land and concentrated on their careers overseas.

The group released their first new Korean record in almost two years Tuesday with the single “Stupid Love.”

The members of the band are Yoonhak, Sungje, Kwangsoo, Geonil, Sungmo and Jihyuk.
